The characters on the pics are usually illustrated by having a small face with large eyes and a small cherry mouth and a lean body attacted with long arms as well as legs; as a way to beautify the human beings. (We like to be tall, don't we? I'm pretty sure this holds true for both genders.) Moreover, the characters are often drawn with wings, just as if they are faeries or angels existed in the realm of fantasy.
